What should I give my mother for Mother’s Day?
March 7th, 2010
Dear Melissa
Usual problem: what do I get my mum for Mother’s Day? She claims to have given up chocolate for Lent, and my sister will be sending her some vast bunch of flowers, despite the fact that every year Mum’s stupid Yorkshire Terrier eats them and covers the house in petal-strewn sick.
Ideas, please.
Nick, Hereford
Dear Nick
How thoughtful that you’ve remembered now, and not at 10pm next Saturday. Here’s my top present - for anyone, doesn’t have to be mothers - an egg boiler. Like this one:
Where else would you go for your kitchen needs, but the best shop in the world, and official supplier to the Little Lady Agency?
You may laugh. People do. But I say to you, when you’ve had the gift of perfectly soft-boiled eggs with creamy yolks, or properly hard-boiled ones for salad nicoise, and no faffing around with boiling water singing two verses of Onward, Christian Soldiers (or is it three? And is the water boiling when it’s small bubbles, or big ones? And why do they always crack?) you and your mother will thank me.
love, Melissa
